Richmond Public Schools submitted its Fiscal Year 2027 budget request to the Mayor. While we may not get all the money we are asking for, it's important for Richmond Public Schools to present a budget to our City leaders that includes all the major expenses necessary to accomplish our strategic plan goals. I believe our FY27 budget request to the Mayor does that. 

It takes a village to raise a child and we need homes for ALL our neighbors. Right now, Richmond is going through a process to update its zoning code. We have the opportunity make our zoning rules more flexible, to build more housing and different kinds of housing so ALL our neighbors have homes, and our kids have the villages of support they need!

Richmond Public Schools has begun the process to create next year’s budget and we have to make cuts in FY 27.

We have results of our performance under a new school quality rating system developed by the Virginia Department of Education.

Richmond Public School maintenance has been funded well below what’s needed for upkeep. There is a significant, systemic, and chronic financial gap between what we need to maintain our facilities and what we are appropriated. The result of this is that our facilities keep degrading as needed repairs have to be ignored and triangulated due to limited dollars. 

On Tuesday June 3, the Richmond School Board passed the budget for the next fiscal year, FY 26, which begins this July 1, 2025. You can find the details and documents online here.

Recent funding increases have helped Richmond Public Schools raise SOL scores, improve graduation rates, and accredit more schools!

The Southern Barton Heights Civic Association has generously invited the 3rd and 6th District School Board members to their meeting on April 16th at 6:30 PM to discuss Richmond Public Schools.
