FY 27 Budget Update

Richmond Public Schools submitted its Fiscal Year 2027 budget request to the Mayor. While we may not get all the money we are asking for, it's important for Richmond Public Schools to present a budget to our City leaders that includes all the major expenses necessary to accomplish our strategic plan goals. I believe our FY27 budget request to the Mayor does that. I remain optimistic about funding from the City and the General Assembly. However, we are still proposing painful central office cuts to balance our budget.

The next step in the budget process is that City Council will deliberate the full City budget, including the School Board’s request, throughout April. The General Assembly will reconvene in April to finalize state funding. City Council will vote on a final budget in May. The Governor will sign the state budget around the same time.

Richmond Public Schools will adjust our FY27 budget in June, based on City Council + State funding. Our FY27 budget will go into effect when the new fiscal year starts on July 1, 2026.
